Tintypes, which are images on metal, and ambrotypes, which are images on glass are done using the wet-plate collodion photography process. 

Used extensively from 1859 to roughly the mid 1870's, these were the images that preserved such things as the civil war, the native American struggle, and the face of Abe Lincoln.

Although I rarely do images at events these days, I do still do commissioned images for ranches and historical buildings.
